We're excited to announce our new partnership with Grub Street Inc., Boston's favorite non-profit writing center! Check out these upcoming workshops and events:
Crash Course in Picture Books
Register HERE!
Monday, February 25th, 6:00-9:00pm at Wellesley Books.
Have you always wanted to try writing a picture book? Picture book
texts can look deceptively simple, but when you sit down to write one,
it can be hard to know how to begin. In this three-hour crash-course in
picture books writing, we'll look at several topics ranging from the
question, "What is a picture book?," to issues of audience, theme,
language, character, conflict, and structure, as they apply specifically
to picture book writing. Examples will be drawn from a wide variety of
classic and contemporary picture books. This class is designed to give
you the knowledge you need to leap into a writing course.
- Instructor: Jane Kohuth
Type: 3-Hour Seminar (Evening)
Max Capacity: 12 students
Writing for Children: Editing Round Table
Register HERE!
Friday, March 15th, 10:00am-1:00pm at Wellesley Books.
Ever wonder what happens to your manuscript when it finally arrives
at the editor's desk? Ever wonder why your manuscript is accepted or
rejected? Join published children's book author, MFA Creative Writing
graduate and advisor, and Grub Street editor at the round table where
you will learn the essence of editing your work and that of others.
Bring enough copies of your picture books, chapter books and/or young
adult novel chapters for all members of the class and learn the art of
editing...before you send that manuscript out to publishers. Who
knows...you might just save them a step or two and land yourself a
contract.
- Instructor: Beth Raisner Glass

Creative Non-Fiction I: Section B - FULL
10 Tuesdays from 6:00-9:00pm at Wellesley Books. Begins January 8th.
This course is an introduction to the craft of writing compelling creative non-fiction, with a focus on the memoir and personal essay genre. Topics discussed include voice, detail, perspective, and use of language. By the end of ten weeks, you will practice your writing style, learn the process of workshopping what you’re written, read and study examples that work, and maybe even look at the world around you a little differently. Each student will workshop at least two manuscripts up to twenty-five pages each. In the meantime, you will complete and receive instant feedback on a few short exercises that could be developed into longer pieces. This class is ideal for novice writers or more experienced writers looking to dive into a new genre.
Instructor: Rita Zoey ChinLevel: Beginner
Type: Multi-Week Workshop (Evening)

More About Grub Street Inc.
Grub Street is a non-profit writing center dedicated to nurturing writers and connecting readers with the wealth of writing talent in the Boston area.
We have two vital roles. We support writers at every stage of their development by offering writing classes, fellowships, employment, and networking opportunities, and by promoting the work of local authors. Equally important, we enrich the lives of Boston-area residents by introducing them to a community of fellow readers and writers through author-hosted book clubs, informal discussions, movie screenings and more.
Grub Street builds on Boston's proud literary tradition by making the city more welcoming for writers, and more inspiring and culturally alive for all of us.
