Meet Susannah Charleson and her Rescue Dog Puzzle - RSVP requested

Join us when Susannah Charleson and her rescue dog Puzzle come to the store for an awesome evening of entertainment. Susannah’s Scent of the Missing: Love and Partnership with a Search and Rescue Dog is a memoir that explores not only the deep bond rescue dogs forge with their handlers, but also the vital role dogs play in search and rescue missions (runaways, Alzheimer’s patients, kidnappings, homicides). The author is a phenomenal and inspirational woman: pilot, television broadcaster, media professor, writer, animal rights activist and search and rescue volunteer, and her dog, Puzzle, is, well, just adorable. (Much of the book details her struggle to transform a cute, willful ball of fur into an obedient and skilled working dog!) You'll hear Susannah warmly and articulately address both the human/animal connection (while encouraging people to look at their pets more closely and see what they might be trying to communicate) and the true crime angle. In fact, it’s particularly poignant when these two segments overlap: when a search ends badly (i.e. turns into a recovery rather than a rescue) and the dog, who must be rewarded for doing its job, can intuit from his/her handlers that something is wrong. Handlers find tremendous comfort in their dogs, who often play a critical role in allowing them to de-stress and let go of a particularly difficult search. Don't miss this incredible opportunity.
