LUNCH WITH THE AUTHOR SERIES:
Don't miss this opportunity to have lunch with award-winning author Margot Livesey on Monday, February 6, 2012. The vivid imagination she displays in her books comes alive even more in person - she's a very entertaining luncheon companion! You'll love hearing about Scottish-born Margot's views on the classic tale, and you'll learn, as well, about the surprising similarities between Margot's life and Jane's. There will be a presentation followed by a lunch & discussion. Margot will personalize books as well. LOCATION: The luncheon will be set amongst the books (!), in the newly redecorated Used Book Cellar, downstairs at Wellesley Books, 82 Central Street, Wellesley, MA. TICKETS: Tickets are $35, and include a copy of the new hardcover book, THE FLIGHT OF GEMMA HARDY (a $26.99 value), a delicious catered lunch, presentation, discussion, & book-signing. PLEASE RESERVE YOUR PLACE by purchasing your ticket in the store or calling 781 431 1160. You can EMAIL events@wellesleybooks.com with any questions. ABOUT THE BOOK: A captivating tale, set in Scotland in the early 1960s, that is both an homage to and a modern variation on the enduring classic Jane Eyre. In Margot's own words: "I made my heroine a little older than myself because I wanted her to come of age just slightly before the rising tide of feminism—the pill, equal pay, discrimination—broke over both Britain and the States. The Flight of Gemma Hardy is, in my mind, neither my autobiography nor a retelling of Jane Eyre. Rather I am writing back to Charlotte Brontë, recasting Jane's journey to fit my own courageous heroine and the possibilities of her time and place. And like Brontë I am, of course, stealing from my own life." ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Margot Livesey (born 1953) is a Scottish born writer. She is the author of six novels, numerous short stories, and essays on the craft of writing fiction. Livesey came to North America during the 1970s where she worked to get her fiction published, reportedly because her boyfriend at the time was also a writer. Livesey's work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic Monthly, and a number of literary quarterlies. She is also the Fiction Editor at Ploughshares, a renowned literary journal. She currently lives in the Boston area and is the writer-in-residence at Emerson College. |
