They will be offering presentations, workshops, and book talks, all in celebration of the generosity, creativity, and passion of knitters (and other fiber artists).

THE SCHEDULE of EVENTS:

Presentations will be held downstairs in the Used Book Cellar.  Knitters are welcome to knit during the presentations!  The day is divided into three sessions, with other activities interspersed. The first session centers on the inspirational topic of charitable knitting, the second on creativity,  the third on the joy of knitting with color.

MORNING SESSION:

10-11 am  CHARITABLE KNITTING (and MORE)

The day will begin with a short presentation by a wonderful panel of charitable knitters, followed by plenty of time for questions and discussion, and a book-signing.  This is a great opportunity to hear about using fiber arts creatively for causes.  Panelists include Jill Stover, Judith Durant and Roseanna Means. Followed by a book-signing of Knit One, Bead Too.

LATE MORNING  WORKSHOP & DEMONSTRATION:

11 am  NEEDLE FELTING WORKSHOP with  Jill Stover,
Come watch expert Jill Stover, of Yarns in the Farms, work her magic with felting needles and then start your own creation!   Jill's favorite needle felting books and needle felting supplies will be available for purchase.

11:30 am KNITTING WITH BEADS DEMONSTRATION with Judith Durant
Watch while Judith demonstrates five ways to incorporate beads into your favorite knitting projects.  Judith’s book will be available for purchase.

EARLY AFTERNOON SESSION:

1-1:45 pm   SINGING WITH EVERY FIBER

Wren will give a lively performance filled with funny knitting songs and stories that reflect the fabulous foibles of working with fiber.   She brings her passion for yarn together with her twenty years of professional acting and singing experience to make a performance that is fun and memorable.  She will also discuss how knitting and the creative process is unique for each person and invite participants to talk about their encounters with mistakes, tangles and all the delights and dilemmas of the craft. Followed by a book-signing of Changing Patterns: Discovering the Fabric of Your Creativity.

MID AFTERNOON SESSION:

2-3:30 pm  COLOR DELIGHTS: DYE, PICK AND KNIT

Join Gail Callahan (aka the Kangaroo Dyer), Master Vogue Knitter Kristin Nicholas and Melissa Morgan Oakes, three good friends, as they illustrate all the colorful knitting steps, from dying wool, to choosing pleasing colors, to knitting (two socks at a time).  You'll be treated to a demonstration of dyeing (on a white table cloth), a hands on color exercise, and beautiful samples.  Followed by a book-signing of Hand Dyeing Yarn and Fleece, Color by Kristin, and Two at a Time Socks.

CONSULTATIONS:  4-4:30 pm  THE KNITTERS ARE IN

Gail, Kristin, Judith and Melissa will be available for consultation.  Stuck on color combinations? Bring your stash and Kristin will help you combine just the right colors! Sock challenged?  Talk to Melissa.  Yearning to learn about lambs?  Ask Kristin about her sheep farm (and their sweaters.) Want that perfect color yarn?  Speak with Gail. Looking for direction on incorporating beads into your project?  Talk to Judith.

ALL DAY:
Wellesley Booksmith will also be running a charitable book fair all day, in which customers may indicate that 10% of their book purchases be donated to Women of Means (founded by Wellesley resident Roseanna Means).
