Bestselling author and inspirational speaker Kelly Corrigan to speak at Weston Library

03/06/2010 1:00 pm

Kelly Corrigan
Come hear  Kelly Corrigan, author of  the best-selling, heart-warming memoir The Middle Place.  Kelly will be speaking about her new book Lift, a tiny but powerful meditation on parenting and the love that will keep you fighting longer and harder than you ever thought possible. Prepare to be inspired by Kelly Corrigan, mother of two, journalist, & sought-after keynote speaker.  This event is co-sponsored by the Ellie Fund.  Books will be available for sale at the library; and, Wellesley Booksmith will donate 10% of the sales to The Ellie Fund.

ABOUT THE BOOK
Lift is written in the form of a letter to her children.  .Intimate and reflective, she conjures up the moments she will never forget, but that her girls may well fail to remember as adults: teaching her daughter how to spell her own last name, long games of “I Spy,” watching the Jackson 5 on YouTube. She reveals, beautifully, how mundanely and fiercely her children have been loved, how close most lives occasionally come to disaster, and even how often we fall short as mothers and fathers.   Lift is not just her story.  Kelly tells the story of when her own tiny infant daughter was in the ICU unit fighting for her life, and also her best friend’s struggle over whether or not she would become a single parent, and her cousin’s inspiring family and the loss they had to survive.  It is honest, sometimes funny, and filled with moments that just ring true.

She lives in Oakland, California, with her husband and daughters, where she volunteers for the Children’s Hospital.
