Do you like magic? Mysteries? Mythology? We do too! That’s why were thrilled to be hosting this event with two rising stars of the children’s book world who appear to be experts on these subjects. Expert number one: Author Elise Broach, who wowed us with her mysterious novel Shakespeare's Secret and completely charmed us with Masterpiece, a brilliantly imagined story about a boy, a beetle he befriends, and a mystery the two unravel together. Expert number two: Author Marie Rutkoski, whose Kronos Chronicles series has wowed fans with what Publishers Weekly called “a heady mix of history and enchantment.” Inspired by Roma (gypsy) legends of Moscow and Prague, the series’ first two books, The Cabinet of Wonders and The Celestial Globe, will thrill fantasy fans and leave readers wanting more! We’re thrilled to be hosting this dynamic duo for a reading and signing, with plenty of time for Q&A.
Elise Broach has won numerous awards for her picture books and young readers' novels that bring together elements of art, friendship and mystery. Having loved her young adult novel Desert Crossing, her middle grade novels, and her picture books, we suspect there’s NO age she couldn’t be writing for! Masterpiece, one of our favorite novels of the past two years, is a brilliantly imagined story about a boy, the beetle he befriends, and a mystery the two unravel together. It’s tale of unexpected creativity and the importance of finding out who you really are. Elise will be visiting us from her home in Connecticut.
Marie Rutkoski has lived in Moscow and Prague, whose legends partially inspired The Kronos Chronicles. Publishers Weekly has described her fantasy series as “a heady mix of history and enchantment.” The Celestial Globe continues the adventures of Petra and her friends, including her encounter with some eerie zombie-like creatures called Gristleki in her hunt for the Celestial Globe. Marie lives in New York City, where she is a professor of English literature at Brooklyn College and specializes in Renaissance drama, children’s literature, and creative writing.
